Nancy Kremers (Of Counsel)
is an experienced international business and
intellectual property lawyer, and she also consults globally on
biodiversity, traditional knowledge, and economic development issues.
She has lived in Belgium and the Congo (Zaire), and has traveled and
worked in many parts of Asia, Africa, Pacifica, and Europe. She
speaks excellent French and Dutch, and is currently learning Spanish.
She works and resides in Houston, TX, and she also works in the
Washington, DC area, where she is a part-time faculty member at George
Washington University School of Law and at George Mason University Law
School. She teaches appellate writing and advocacy, and she teaches a
course she designed for upper-level intellectual property law students
in legal drafting (primarily contracts and legislative drafting).
Ms. Kremers attended the World Intellectual Property Organization
intergovernmental committee meeting on genetic resources, traditional
knowledge, and folklore in Geneva, Switzerland, in December, 2002. She
is currently completing her LL.M. thesis, entitled “Speaking with a
Forked Tongue in the Global Debate on Traditional Knowledge and
Genetic Resources: Is U.S. Intellectual Property Law and Policy Really
Aimed at Protecting Native Americans?”
Ms. Kremers has written several articles and has been interviewed
concerning various Internet and intellectual property law issues. Her
recent article, “Stolen Legacy”, was the cover story for Legal Times
in its intellectual property law magazine for March 25, 2003; it is

Ms. Kremers holds black belt ranking (shodan) both open hand and
traditional weapons in shorin ryu shorin kan karate, a traditional
Okinawan style. She enjoys yoga, running, the visual arts, and is a
devoted member of the Textile Museum in Washington, D.C. In her spare
moments, she can be found studying foreign languages or looking at
art. She also raises orchids and is devoted to her teenaged son and
friends around the world.
